Items below represent most of the venues or activities that qualifies for our volunteer hours.  To view dates for specific activities, log in and refer to the Calendar of Events.    You don't have to log in to see some of the public events we post from time to time.

Bull Shoals State Park -

Interpretation Guides - All during the year, but particularly in the spring when the number of school groups visiting the park peaks, volunteers are needed to assist in  presenting programs. Your help might be as simple as turning on a projector, assisting with a game or leading a group on a short hike.  Contact Bull Shoals Park Interpreter Randy Pearson and let him know you are available to help.

Gaston Wildflower Meadow - NCAMN are assisting in the development of the 3 acre Gaston Wildflower Meadow and trail by pulling invasive grasses and maintaining the beds around the arbors. Contact is Alice Snyder - NCAMN.

Biological inventory - This is a tremendous undertaking that will begin in the Spring of 2010.  Contact Pam Phillips at the state park if you would like to participate.
The Trail Patrol -  These volunteers work on various trails around the NC part of the state. Trails have been cleared from the ice storm and some trails rerouted.  Monthly trail maintenance is an important part of this activity. Some work is strenuous, other trail work can be completed with hand trimmers.  Working on the trails is always a way of meeting people and letting them know about the MN program.  These volunteers see more of nature than those just taking a walk.

Stream Team -   Stream teams are groups of citizens who adopt a stream or other body of water for the purpose of helping keep it clean and healthy.  By analysis of the macro-invertebrates (tiny little bugs) and chemistry of the creek water, the health of the stream can be determined.  Stream data is taken quarterly is sent to AG&F.  North Central Naturalists Stream Team has adopted Moccasin Creek in Marion County as their initial monitoring site. For more information on NCAMN Stream Team contact Ed Metcalf or check the NCAMN calendar for 2010 dates.

Fred Barry Conservation Education Center on Crooked Creek - This conservation education project includes an education building, pavilion, trails, a creek and acres of varied Ozark habitat. The classroom features a web lab, exhibits and wildlife nature to the area plus an outdoor Ozark native plant garden. It is located on a former dairy. This unique site is designated an Arkansas Watchable Wildlife site.  Richard Siefert, NCAMN,  will be our coordinator for our activities there.
