NCAMN - Clearing a New Trail Print
North Central Arkansas Master Naturalist
Written by Alice Snyder

On Tuesday, Jan. 26 North Central Master Naturalists met to clear a new trail specifically for use with the many school groups that visit in the spring at the Bull Shoals State Park.

Most of the clearing required loppers and hand snips and dragging. We had a backpack blower to do most of the leaf clearing. There were two large trees that had fallen over the trail, and were hung up in standing trees. These put lessons learned in the chainsaw class to good use.

North Central Master Naturalists took part in the MLK Volunteer Fair held at the Baxter County Library on Saturday, January 16. This event was a perfect opportunity to let people in the community become aware of, and learn what the Master Naturalist program has to offer.

Three members of the chapter, President Dwan Garrison, President-Elect Jill Whiddon, and Curriculum Committee member Karen Westby, answered questions about the organization and gave out information about the upcoming training sessions. These sessions begin on January 23. Many people expressed interest in the organization, the training and becoming members. A number took time to leave their names and addresses to be contacted with more detailed information about NCAMN. We look forward to several joining our 2010 Naturalists In Training class and introducing them to some very rewarding experiences.
