The Bell Slough Trail Team was working this weekend.  Cottonmouth at Bell Slough by Martha Bowden Saturday was cool, 52 degrees and this cottonmouth was active.  We gave the snake a wide berth as we continued our way down the trail. This was a surprise to us as we normally don't see them until later in the spring.

Arkansas Game and Fish has an excellent article on Cottonmouths. Click here to link to AGFC's article on Cottonmouths.

We also saw Spring Beauty flowers, Trout Lilies getting ready to bloom and Red Buckeye leaves.    When the Trout Lilies bloom, it is certainly worth the trip to Bell Slough to see the hillside full of yellow.
